Bloomsburg University Baseball Splits With IUP in Season Finale

BLOOMSBURG - Scott Kacelowicz (Orwigsburg/Blue Mountain/Kutztown Univ.) hit a three-run triple and Carlos Medina (Lititz/Manheim Twp.) added a two-run home run to lead the Bloomsburg University baseball team to a 14-1 victory over Indiana, (Pa.) in game two of a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon, the Huskies season finale. Bloomsburg fell in game one by a score of 5-0.

In game one, the Huskies had an early opportunity when Tony Donofry (Newtown/Council Rock North) attempted to score off of a Chris Haagen (New Britain/CB West) double, but was thrown out by the IUP left fielder. IUP took a 4-0 lead in the third inning when Lee Bainbridge hit a grand slam to give the Crimson Hawks a lead. IUP would add one more in the top of the 6th inning to secure the five run victory. Mitch Troy (Elkton, MD/Cecil Coll.) (4-6) picked up the loss for the Huskies.

In game two, Bloomsburg took a 2-0 lead after three innings before scoring ten runs in the fourth. Mike Austin (Dallastown/NW Shoals JC) and Jarrod Kramer (Orwigsburg/Blue Mountain) both had RBI singles in addition to Medina's and Kacelowicz big hits. The Huskies would add two more in the top of the sixth in a game that was never close. Matt Kline (Sugarloaf/Hazleton Area) (1-1) pitched a complete game, surrendering only five hits and one earned run and struck out seven.

Before the games, Bloomsburg honored seniors Mike Griggs (Jersey Shore/Jersey Shore), Dusty Johnson (Sunbury/Shikellamy/Volunteer State) and Kevin Ward (Clifton Heights/Monsignor Bonner).

Bloomsburg completes the 2009 season with a record of 17-29, 5-19 in the PSAC Eastern Division.
